Has it really been nine days since my last entry? I am flabbergasted (love that word) - so there will be a couple of entries today to help me catch up.

Firstly, our own Lazza was interviewed yesterday for a Radio 4 program that is on the subject of food poverty. It was organised by Camden Healthwatch, who got our details through Single Homeless Project.  Some will know that they were part of |Lazza's recovery journey from depression. However, it may not be known that on a few occasions he had to use a food bank to help him out.

It was an interesting interview. The lady came to Lazza's flat and recorded his own thoughts on the subject, talking about his own journey, how he had come to have to use a food bank etc.

It is a difficult subject. Lazza mentioned that he thought that food banks were naturally vital, but were just glossing over the problems. It does not solve the reason why people are needing to use the various banks around the country. He also explained he thought here was a bit of a stigma towards people who use them - it appears people may think that people are wasting their money on drink, drugs, smoking etc. And in some cases maybe they are. But in reality, a lot of people just fall into a rut, and on occasions money is very tight.

It can be demoralising to use a food bank. The people, can we add, are very friendly, are definitely not judgemental at all, and treat everyone with respect.

A good result of this interviews was that fact that after it had finished the lady sat and chatted to Lazza about HMHB, and how we are in need of both exposure and funding - both urgently. Without both we will not continue to exist.  She really liked out story and what we are doing. We are hoping she may be able to help us. Let's wait and see.
